Unlocking tech talent stories

Wherever you go there are sure to be many delights that await on this fine continent. Here are just a few of those mouth-watering prospects worth having a good look at…

Buzzing Berlin

What can be said about the German capital? One of the most exciting and innovative place on earth at this time. Sounds like an overstatement but this is where a lot of companies are basing themselves and where many job hunters are flocking. It’s not famous for its surface appearance, but scratch that surface and you discover its rich personality.

The culture, the history, the creative and arts scene, the thumping nightlife and the continuous change make it the place to be at this time. Not to mention the economic stability in these changing times and a city accepting of all walks of life.

Here you have a place where the tech startup scene is booming! In fact, it is said that there’s a startup born every 20 minutes here and McKinsey estimates Berlin startups will generate 100,000 jobs by 2020. Not bad, eh?

AI, Digital Health, FinTech, Cyber Security and Food Technology are a few of the sectors experiencing massive growth.

Amazing Amsterdam

Amsterdam is an old favourite for many. A hugely popular Dutch city famous for its openness. But there’s far more to it than that of course. It’s an incredibly diverse and international city, with friendly people and a high level of English spoken.

Oh, and be sure to dust off that bicycle! There is a great cycling culture, not to mention the vast canal network earning it the nickname of the ‘Venice of the north’.

An ICT hub and a prominent choice for international professionals and numerous innovative companies. Not to mention, an impressive digital infrastructure and one of the world’s largest data transport hubs (AMS-IX). Along with various tech conferences, accelerators and start up incubator programs, cement the ‘Dam’s position as a vibrant hub.

Beachy Barcelona

Fabulous Spanish city which is ideally located and one of the most cosmopolitan places you’ll find. You have it all here. The second largest city in Spain, a beach and all that famous Gaudi architecture. You’re just a high speed train away from Madrid and Valencia and short flight or boat trip over to the Balearics.

As well as being known as the Jewel of Spain’s economy, the last few years has seen it develop as a burgeoning digital focal point. It’s fast-growing, multicultural and has a diverse culinary scene. The cost of living is somewhere in the middle of this list. The most expensive city in Spain (along with Madrid) but certainly better on the pocket than Paris or London.

A thriving place, and fairly well established in the progressive startup world, making this a solid choice for tech workers.

Luscious Lisbon

Gorgeous city with a great climate and friendly vibe. The second oldest capital in Europe, once home to the world’s greatest explorers, and now home to a simmering tech scene.

You have a beach not too far away and a delightful river including a San Fran-esque bridg e. It’s a very colourful city, cool art, interesting buildings, charming trams, good food & wine and a reasonable cost of living. And you have the ‘fairytale town’ of Sintra a short train ride away too which is well worth a visit.

Lisbon is a happening place and the startup scene is going great guns here. Landing.jobs held our career event here… something you don’t want to miss! There was also the Web Summit and other conferences and events that take place regularly.

An excellent all-rounder enabling a good work-life balance with a great blend of the historic and the contemporary.

London Calling?

This article wouldn’t be complete without the English capital. But times they are a-changin’ as Bob Dylan once sang. Not sure ol’ Bob knew much about Brexit (does anyone?). With the impending Deal or No Deal discussions on Britain’s place in the EU, that leaves this particular option up in the air.

It’s an obvious focal point for all financial activity throughout the world. However, the future is uncertain. Will it emerge stronger after Brexit (if that does go through) and create more of a foothold? Or will it fall into the background?

The case may be (and already is) that many companies are looking elsewhere, to Berlin for example, as a place to operate from. As a resident of London you have great access to all of Europe and a multicultural atmosphere. All of this comes at a cost of course, and the most expensive cost of living on the list, although higher salaries will mostly offset this.

London will always be a good option and one of the principal cities of the world, business and otherwise — but remember to bring your brolly!

Sounds great! When can I move?

There you have it. 5 of the most happening cities in the continent, all with plenty of benefits. The only tricky part is deciding which works best for you! Berlin is out in front right now in terms of development and growth but you can’t go wrong with and any of these… and there are others that didn’t make the list well worthy of investigation.

Whichever route you take, the tech boom is continuing to grow at an incredible rate throughout Europe, and now is the perfect time to jump on that bandwagon and not regret it later!

Question is, what are you waiting for?
