Unlocking tech talent stories

July 10, 2020

Today, one of my grandparents is 88 years old. That made me think that he’s seen the world in a lot of different decades. That means he was 7 when the II World War started, that we went through the Portuguese Revolution with 42 years in 1974, to end up seeing a global pandemic with his 87 years. That’s a crazy life and I wonder if I ever make it to his age, what stories will I have to tell. Right now, we’re living times of uncertainty and the first story I’m sharing today is actually something just resurfaced on my Twitter feed from 2017:

This one is for the designers mainly, but did you know why the ‘G’ isn’t a perfect circle in the Google logo? This discussion was held in 2017 on Reddit, and if you’re a designer, you probably already know this but I just found out this today. No, it wasn’t a mistake and you can find Google’s explanation on the article.

This is the first application of balloon-powered Internet in Africa. And that by itself it’s amazing. It’s the first time it’s being used without being related to any sort of emergency and it’s bringing the Internet to a region the size of Slovakia. How cool is that?

Big updates have been brought by Microsoft to Microsoft Teams. Now you can create a visual avatar of yourself and your colleagues and bring you together to a virtual space. We don’t use Microsoft Teams here @ Landing.Jobs, but please if you do use it let us know if you tried it and if it actually brings something new to the virtual experience of a company. We truly are interested in knowing that!

That’s one more week of 2020 out of the bag, one more year for my grandpa on his legs and the first balloon bringing the Internet to Africa. In times of uncertainty, that brings a smile to my face and motivation to make the most of the weekend ahead. I hope you feel the same.

The future starts today.
