Unlocking tech talent stories

January 22, 2016

We are well into 2016, but we wanted to take a moment to run through our 5 best blog posts of 2015. It was a great year for us here at Landing.jobs, and our Landing.blog is a big proof of that. Great posts were penned by our Marketing (now Communications) team, and we had a few wonderful guest writers helping us along the way to make sure our content matched what we’re all about.

Check out our 5 most-read blog posts of 2015. Give them a read and catch up on what you’ve missed it!

1. “Show me the salary!”, by Matthew Carrozo

Left: no salary listed. Right: salary listed.

Back in March, our (now) Head of Communications, Matthew Carrozo, penned (keyboarded?) this piece about the 7 common reasons employers choose not to disclose salary information in their job offers — and why we think they aren’t enough to justify it. Fear of losing negotiating power, unapproved hiring budget, thinking applications will come pouring in anyway? Come on, guys. Let our tips sink in and show us the money.

2. “My first experience working from home”, by Pedro Semeano

March was a big quality content-filled month. Guest writer Pedro Semeano, Full-Stack Web Developer, reflected on his first 3-month experience working from home, and how it can sometimes be confused as code for “The Big Bang Theory marathons”. Revisit his pros and cons to the 9 to 5 way of life in the comfort — or seclusion — of your couch. Hey, at least your dog is always an arm’s length away.

3. “Email template to deal with unresponsive employers”, by João Almeida Silva and Matthew Carrozo

Job-hunting can be a pain. Even worse? Unresponsive employers. After sending dozens of applications, we are faced with as much feedback as we “receive from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry: NONE AT ALL”. Back in June, João Silva and Matthew Carrozo vented out their frustration and whipped up an email template that teaches you the fine art of dealing with this type of human. Feel free to use as you wish.

4. Why hunting for unicorns is bullshit: how to hire great UX designers”, by Gustavo Pimenta

Yeah.

“Not a day goes by where I don’t read the word ‘unicorn’ coming out of the startup world.” In May, we asked the amazing Gustavo Pimenta, UX Designer extraordinaire and Managing Partner at SensesLab, to share his opinions on individual unicorns and how he hires great professionals. “You don’t need the human equivalent of a Swiss army knife — just someone who can enhance your team”. Well said, Gustavo.

5. How to answer the worst job interview question”, by Lorena Wildering

Ah, job interviews, those sweat-inducing devils. In July, yours truly had a go at this one. Having had a few interviews myself in my short time as a professional adult (that’s what they call it, right?), there is one question everyone fears above all: “what’s your greatest weakness?”. Heart pounding, throat thickening, internal screaming. Power through it… until the next question comes along, at least.

This year, we’re preparing lots of different new content for your viewing, reading, and listening pleasure. Be on the lookout; we’re just getting started!
