What if the talent pool is now global by default?

The long lasting effects Covid has brought and the consequent acceleration of the remote work tendency have been drivers for a deep change in the world of work. It’s no longer enough for employers to stick to their traditional recruiting practices in order to attract talent. There is an urgent need to shift workforce planning. But why?

The Future Impact on Recruiting

Companies trying to attract better talent and better engaging them are most likely the ones improving their productivity. We’re currently living in a reality where employees can and want to work from anywhere in the world, as long as the job is done, so companies are increasingly adapting their hiring models to keep up with this shift, ultimately competing for the best talent. Suddenly companies can find more skilled candidates without having geographical areas or time zones as limiting factors.

But hiring and managing global teams is easier said than done, there are multiple things to consider. While working remotely has become the norm for millions of workers worldwide and doing so presents a lot of advantages for both sides, companies are most likely facing challenging obstacles in order to provide this option even in a post-pandemic reality.

Managing distributed teams raises the issue of dealing with cultural differences, remote management and maintaining a cohesive culture for everyone. It raises the issue of virtual recruiting and assessing. It raises the incredibly important issue of mental health management, one of society’s biggest struggles, with the increase of screen times and the blend of home and office into one. It also raises the issue of global compensation models — what happens when the job can be done from anywhere and the company-wide pay no longer makes sense because workers aren’t all in the same building, or working on the same premise and incurring similar costs?
